Bless his little heart…this boy gives a new meaning to the word “thriving.” He must have been in the middle of one of those cluster-feeding spells when I was there because all he wanted was to nurse with his mama. But, somehow, we managed to snap a few pics here and there between feedings and it worked out just fine.
P.S. His mama should seriously consider going into interior design because the woman has got outstanding taste and style. Wish I had more time to take more pics of the house…think I need to go back sometime. Either that or move in 😉
Having been there for his brother’s birth and newborn sessions as well as his own birth and newborn sessions, it was so interesting to draw comparisons between the two boys. Upon just being born, big brother was wide awake and always looking at the world around him…little brother was very, very sleepy and mellow. I remember at big brother’s newborn session, he was equally wide awake and looking at the world around him…and much to my surprise, so was little brother. Every now and then, the baby would make a face and I would say, “Oh, he looks *just* like his older brother!” But every now and then, he would do something that would be so completely different and he wouldn’t look like him at all. Isn’t it amazing that two boys could come from the same parents and be so very different and then in many ways, exactly the same? It fascinated me with my own boys and I loved getting to see it happen again with her little ones.

Maybe it’s because I know what a miracle she is. Maybe it’s because I vividly remember meeting them for the first time at their maternity session…
…and then sitting around chatting about the miracle of her birth during her newborn session. Maybe it’s because her parents couldn’t be any sweeter. Maybe it’s because her grandma was so overcome with emotion when taking pictures with her we could hardly take pictures. Maybe it’s because this baby girl is so danged adorable. I’m not sure what it is, but this session gets me…big time…each time I flip through the images.

I loved the deep, rich, bold colors of his session. I loved the relaxed nature of his parents. I love that he had that relaxed nature, too. *These* are the kind of newborn sessions that make me wish I had hired a newborn photographer for all of my babies.
I love that it was such a contrast to the misty, wintry feel of her maternity pictures:
[Though it seems like forever ago in looking at the newborn pictures, I vividly remember the day she came out to the studio for her maternity session…it was so grey and cold outside…I swear it could have snowed. When she showed up in the grey sweater dress, I thought it suited the mood and showed off her beautiful belly so perfectly!]

I promise you, there was not a dry eye in the house when her father held a prayer for the new parents-to-be and the unborn baby shortly before his arrival. It was one of the most memorable birth moments I’ve witnessed. When you become a parent for the first time yourself, there’s no feeling like it in the world. To get to be a spectator and watch a loving couple go through all of those emotions just before, during, and immediately after they are initiated into parenthood…well, there’s also no feeling quite like it in the world. It is an honor I do not take for granted.
I love when a song becomes the soundtrack to a session. A good friend/client of mine sent me the link to this song “You Were Born” one day, shortly before this little guy was born and I knew *right* away, it was going to be in his birth slideshow. So, I sent Cloud Cult a note and much to my surprise, they granted their permission for me to use this song! I couldn’t be more grateful that it got to accompany such a beautiful, beautiful day for his mommy and daddy. [Google Reader users, you can watch the show HERE].
I’ve had a number of people inquire about birth photography sessions for this summer and fall (what’s with this baby boom?) but let me warn you, I can only take a couple of sessions, so if this is something that you’ve decided you wanted to do, NOW is the time to book.
Thank you again to this beautiful family for having me be part of one of the best days of their lives and I very much look forward to seeing what the future holds in store for this little guy!

I know photographers pray to have sleepy newborns at photo sessions, but this was a bit much. We tried everything we could to get this little snuggle bug to wake up for at least a few images for his photographic debut, but he would not oblige. He was just too content…
I have to say, I feel pretty special that I’m often one of the first people to know when my clients are expecting. Quite literally the day of the first session I had with her beautiful family, she whispered to me that she might be needing me again this past November. And sure enough, we did and he was a delight!

…is still just as sweet.
Let me just tell you that I’m glad I decided to go to bed at 11 last night instead of staying up to proof pics because that 2 a.m. call this morning wasn’t quite in my plans, LOL. This little man surprised us all just a bit as we were planning to meet him on Monday. It was absolutely incredible to get to be there with this family again (I was there the day their first son was born) and wow, were we all impressed with how big brother *immediately* took to his new sidekick. It was beautiful!
Speaking of beautiful…
….I know. I know. I should just make this the fashion!
It was an exhausting (I haven’t pulled a double header in a long time 😉 but ULTRA JOYOUS day! Gosh, I had to pinch myself periodically–is this really my life…my job??? I absolutely adore this family and it was such an honor to get to document his birth. Congratulations again, you guys (guess I’ll find out his name at his newborn session, LOL?). You make beautiful babies!

Narrowed down from 40 entries, the finalists were selected as follows:

…to me that you can get a group of 9 women together (me + my mom + 7 photographers from all over the country) and spend three days together and get stuff like this:
and still leave happy and looking like this:
Thank you to all of these beautiful and talented women who drove and flew out here to spend this time perfecting their craft. (Also wanted to point out that the b/w shot in the doorway above was spotted by a couple of the attendees…I would totally have missed that one if it wasn’t for them!) Thanks to Scott (an incredible photog–also took the first image of us above 😉 and his dear wife for letting us invade their home for our newborn session demonstration. (Oh, Amy…I’ll be blogging about your family session soon, too ;-). And thanks to Mee Maw for keeping us all well fed!
Spent today sleeping and recovering from our adventures, but this week, I need to gear up for the next workshops. We have just three openings left for the March 8-10 workshop and 3 for the March 29-31…and folks, that’s it for 2012. That’s most likely it for 2013, as well for that matter. If you were contemplating an intensive Pinkle Toes professional photographer workshop like this one, this is quite possibly your last chance. Don’t say I didn’t warn you ;-). Oh, and don’t forget, your last opportunity to purchase a Pinkle Toes 4 Photographers membership is THE END OF THIS MONTH. Now that’s a biggie.
Okay, back to smoochin’ on my family (boy, I missed them this week). Take care and Austinites…enjoy the rain we’re about to have!
