They had *just* moved into their new home…in the midst of all that, their little guy surprised them quite early. Mom was worried because the house wasn’t furnished or decorated yet. I was elated to have this blank canvas with which to work. And he was a sweet little superstar at his debut photo session!

Just like with their maternity photo session, I left their home thinking, “Wow, you’re not going to meet a nicer couple.” Truly. Patient, kind, full of joy, everything about them was so calming to me. And it transferred right over to their beautiful new baby girl. That’s probably my favorite part about this job…I LOVE getting to meet so many nice, good hearted people, and now, the world is +1.

Even though I’d spent hours going through the images and designing the album, my heart fluttered with both sadness and joy as I flipped through the pages when it arrived on my doorstep. The album features the maternity pictures, his beautiful birth day photos, and his perfect little newborn session (below). While it was incredibly rewarding to see it all tied together like that, it also meant that that particular “trilogy” was over.  I’ve mentioned before that this beautiful family is leaving Austin soon and I don’t know why, but it really hits me hard when I think about it. I’ve been working with them since before the birth of their first baby a few years ago. Feels like I’m going to be saying goodbye to good friends. *Fortunately,* I get one last fix this fall before they’re off to make a new life up north. And equally fortunate, we can stay in touch via Facebook.

Okay. I’m done moping now. Here are a few photos from his newborn session…

carter-austin-birth-photography.jpgThis day was a big deal. In more ways than one. His birth definitely brought happy tears from everyone in the room. If you haven’t been reading Andrea’s blog, you should be. She is a phenomenal writer and helped create an incredible source of healing for many women all over the world. After you watch Carter’s birth below, you should definitely read Andrea’s words on her experience. She tells it much better than I ever could. Andrea…I can’t tell you enough how happy I am for your family and how wonderful it is to get to watch Natalie and Carter grow up through your lens and your inspiring words.

Her big bro was a little firecracker. They balance each other out 😉

I’ve really been enjoying lifestyle newborn sessions like this. It’s not about the latest prop or the coolest blanket or headband. It’s about a family just being a family and pulling in elements of their current circumstances into the images so they can always remember these early, fleeting days.

I don’t mean this to sound shallow in any way whatsoever, but throughout my (relatively short in the grand scheme of things) career (that word just sounds weird) as a photographer, I’ve met some beautiful children, but I gotta tell you that when I was greeted by these three handsome boys, I believe I gasped. Maybe it was their perfect skin or maybe it was those crystal, honey eyes, or maybe those incredible lashes, but my word, how does one family get to be so lucky in the looks department?

I loved the personality of this session, too. It was fast-paced and spunky (much like the older brothers) and sprinkled with lots of love (I couldn’t get over how connected the eldest was to his littlest bro). I remember it was insanely windy that day and we almost weren’t able to go outside. Not sure how little man put up with all of our antics that morning, but he was just as cute as he could be and I don’t even recall any tears (from him ;-).

…just as sweet and beautiful as her parents and complete angel during her entire photo session. I do wonder if she’s going to get her mom’s honey-colored eyes 😉

Sort of a side topic:

Today I learned that Pinkle Toes Photography was nominated as one of Austin’s Best Birth and Best Infant Photographers! First-round voting continues through the end of July (just click the badge–lots of other Austin birth professionals who deserve some recognition, too!). Thanks so much to whoever nominated me. Such an honor!

This family has got some good genes, don’t they??? We had so much fun working together and he had the perfect chubby cheeks. I can’t wait to see if he’s going to have his big sister’s amazing hair!

during this newborn session that I will never forget. It had been cold for quite sometime and on this day, it was nice and warm. Mom and dad were playing with the baby on the bed and we unwrapped him from his blanket. It was as if they were unwrapping a gift. It was incredible to be there to watch them as they got to explore their son’s newborn-ness for the first time. They were lost in their own world…peeking at tiny toes, noticing those little lashes, the way his belly moved when he breathed. It was magical.
