After feeling like I had made the wrong weather call for my session the day before (it was supposed to rain, but didn’t), I was determined to play the odds and said we could meet up for his senior photo shoot in spite of the *very* small chance of rain. As I was driving closer and closer into Austin, the skies got darker and darker. I stayed positive, “Well, at least we will be able to shoot wherever we want,” I told myself. Sure enough, the minute they pulled up, a light, but steady drizzle started. I still wasn’t ready to give up and we started to shoot anyway thinking for sure the rain would stop at any minute.
Turns out, we were totally wrong. The rain didn’t stop so we decided to cut our losses and try again another day. That ended up being a very good decision because THIS super cool ATX sculpture was discovered in between our session attempts and it was a bonus to get to use it! So take THAT, rain ;-).
We wanted to do something colorful and fun for their family photo session this time, so I thought these spots in Austin would do just the trick. We were pleasantly surprised to discover some new options to add to the mix and they were the perfect “models” to do so! I love how fun and effortless they made it look and how they jumped right in to use our “props”…like this one HERE.
The great thing about this family is that there is virtually no “posing” required on my part. They just do. They are themselves. They play and have fun and make one another laugh out loud and invite me along to document those interactions. I’ve been working with them since (quite literally) the very day the youngest brother was born and spending time with them feels a lot like spending time with my own family and I am very grateful to be in that position after all these years. Very grateful, indeed.
It was nearly 10 years ago when I first started working with this family…he was just a baby, then. I am so impressed with the intelligent, caring, funny, creative young man that he has grown into. His mommy and daddy should be very, very proud! I am honored to know ALL of them ;-). One of my favs HERE.
For one reason or another, we kept having to push back this family photo session date until we were right on the edge of the holidays. But, it didn’t matter because it turned out that the day we were finally able to shoot was completely perfect. The boys were in great moods and SO hammy for the camera (didn’t they pull off their dapper purple velvet suit coats so wonderfully?) and the entire family looked oh-so posh and ready for a night on the town. People kept looking at us while we were shooting…trying to figure out if this family was famous (of course they are!) or if perhaps we were shooting an ad ;-). I’ve done so many sessions with this crew over the years and this one will definitely stand out to me. I know the years are numbered where mom is going to be allowed to dress up her guys and I’m glad we were able to do this at least once more. THIS image makes me laugh every time I think about it.
So. Much. Color! I always adore working with Brooke and her family and how well we collaborate creatively together! This fall photo session along South Congress was no exception and I have to point out how beautiful her outfit selections were, no? Not only is this family funny and loving and dynamic, their kids are cute as can be and sooooooo charming. I pretty much grinned from ear to ear from the time we started shooting to editing the images to posting about it right now. Thank you, Brooke, for the awesome times with your awesome fam! My fav HERE!
I couldn’t think of a more perfect place nor perfect day to mark their new adventures here in Austin from Chicago! And what an incredibly stunning and striking looking family as well. The children really interacted so well with one another, so well in fact, they required very little direction from me. My favorite images from this photo session were from when they were just being themselves. Like in this dance party HERE. At first, it was just Dad and the pup, but the kids wanted to join in, so we convinced Mom to play along as well ;-). Speaking of the pup: I was a bit skeptical when they wanted to bring him to downtown Austin for the photos…I was worried enough about keeping all the kiddos safe and contained…but they assured me that this dog was very well-behaved. And let me tell you that my jaw hit the floor to learn that this dog was still a puppy but followed the family around perfectly behaved, even without a leash! It was quite impressive!
The last time I saw the boys, I believe they had just turned one and NOW look a them???? So much fun…so much energy…and stunning smiles! It was incredible weather that evening and I LOVED the outfits mom picked out for the family. I also LOVED this shot HERE.

[Sorry for not being very wordy on this post and probably the posts to come…swamped with holiday stuff over here and my main goal is to get these pics out to my families as soon as I can ;-).]
I feel like I have watched these girls grow up right before my eyes. Actually, I *have* in fact watched these girls grow up right before my eyes. Each photo session with this family has been unique and memorable for various reasons. This evening was memorable for me because of the absolutely AMAZING weather and lighting that we had. Such a treat! It honestly felt like I was hanging out with my own family, enjoying the beauty of Austin. My absolute favorite shot from this family session is HERE.

Oh yes! I LOVED the fun Behind-the-scenes shot Stacy snapped when I was photographing the dabs ;-).
I first met Stacy at one of my photography workshops here in Austin a few years back (which may have been one of rowdiest groups I’ve ever had, lol) and I will never forget how she introduced me to DoTERRA ‘s Deep Blue lotion to help me with my muscle pain in my back thanks to carting around the camera bag all the time. I will always be grateful to her for that! And now I’m grateful to have met her amazing family…ALL of them. It was quite special to help them celebrate one another, the lives they have built together, recovery, strength, and love…so much love! Oh, and crepes. We celebrated crepes, too ;-). (I was kinda jealous of their awesome brunch, so I made Stacy come back the next day so I could have some, too ;-). One of my favorite candid shots from this photo session is HERE.
