I think it was 2-3 years ago when I first met these kiddos. We were doing a session to capture big sis before she started losing her baby teeth. At the time, my eldest hadn’t lost any of his teeth, and I remember her mom’s words really hit home with me–just how precious this time is when they are not babies, but they still have that one last thing that ties them to their baby/toddler days…the baby teeth. And now, just like we did back then, we had the opportunity to catch little bro before he starts to lose his teeth (which, ps…we’re lucky because he’s *very* rough and tumble and I’m quite surprised he hasn’t accidentally lost them, LOL).

I hadn’t been to this part of Austin in, gosh, 2 years? And eep…it was actually a little scary, I’m sad to say. I LOVE my city, but I’m not sure what happened here. Regardless of the horrible parking, the noise, the people, and the general disorder, they stuck with me and we got absolutely fantastic and super fun pics of their family. This is definitely going down as a fav session!

Things you should know about their photo session:

– It was cold. Really cold. They were brave. Especially their mama in that cute little dress.
– Her boys are used to being in front of the camera (mom’s a photog) and they made it much too easy for me.
– Her and her boys are beautiful beyond words.

I first spoke of my friend Michelle (my sister in Virgo-hood) several years ago on my blog. I have longed for the opportunity to do something for her and I was thrilled when I finally got the chance to photograph her stunning family. She and the rest of the Heartsong family have given me and my kiddos and many, many other families in the Austin area the precious gift of music…together (did you see her on the news???).  It is a gift which has extended beyond the classroom at Heartsong for me and has even allowed my mother and I the opportunity to sing together in the Women of Heartsong Choir. I am eternally grateful for that.
Michelle was gifted with not only a beautiful voice and the talent to play the guitar (did you ever hear her song, “Welcome Baby” featured on this birth slideshow?), but she is magical when it comes to working with children…and their parents. Not surprisingly…she is also magical when it comes to her own family. It was a beautiful evening and I hope you love these images as much as I do, Michelle.

austin-long-center-luminarium-family-photographer.jpg

For those of you who follow me on Facebook, you probably already saw that my attempt to take the kids to experience the Architects of Air luminarium at the Long Center yesterday was a bust (we ended up having fun on Soco, instead). But I really didn’t want to give up, so back we went today. For you workshop girls, you know that this is no short jaunt for us and I was really nervous the line would be too long again.
Well, it was too long, but we waited anyway. At least this time, I had my husband with me so we could hold our place in line and let the kids go run and play while we waited. But considering it was only a 1.5 hr wait, I think that’s pretty good in comparison to the the folks in line behind us because it got baaaaaaaaaaaad. Oi. At least the cash bar they set up (including goldfish snacks for the kids) made it a bit more bearable.
It was fun, though. I don’t think I would have wanted to wait any more than we did, however. Wish we could have done a weekday instead. (If you’re in Austin and want to see this, the 20th is your last day, I believe). If you’re taking pics, bring the widest lens you’ve got (I had to use my fisheye to get anything really) and be prepared for funky low light and lots of strange people in your shots, LOL. It was nice to spend this time with the fam.
Got some fun things coming up on here in the next few days, by the way:
1. Later tonight, I’ll be posting the gallery of our client selections for the 3rd Annual Pinkle’s Pic of the Year contest! I’m really glad to have relinquished control over the nominations to my clients…they have made some amazing selections and I am so excited to see who is going to come away as the 2011 Pinkle’s Pic of the Year.
2. Got some lovely ladies coming over in a bit to test out a fantasy make up idea for the .emme. boudoir sweetheart mini sessions coming up this weekend (I can still squeeze a couple of people in on Sunday if you can make it). Can’t wait to post a sneak of Katie’s creation.

3. And finally…a little peek at a project I’m working on for the workshop folks and for my clients. Interesting experiment looking at the print quality side-by-side from several different professional and general public printers. Wow! You can’t see/feel it here in a picture, but wait until you get up close.
Back in a bit…

You know that feeling when you just click with someone? Well, she and I do. And I like that. A lot. So grateful to know her and her bright, enthusiastic, energetic, sparkling family! (But, she better watch out because I’m going to come by and steal that umbrella of hers–and possibly her shoes, too–in the middle of the night…I do know where she lives 😉

I’ve known Carrie online for quite sometime now (actually, she snuck in a session with me a couple of years ago and managed NOT to tell me that we knew each other online 😉 until after the fact. I had the privilege of getting to know her even more when she attended a workshop last year and we’ve been planning this family session almost since then. I mean, a LOT of planning. She did an amazing job of pulling together some beautiful clothes for everyone and we had scored a DREAM location that was halfway between her house and mine. The day of, I drove out with my mom (aka – photo assistant). The sunrise was beautiful and the weather wasn’t nearly as hot as it had been. Everything was perfect. Except…

Oh, bless her little heart. I swear no matter what we did, nothing seemed to make her happy. Maybe she was tired, maybe she was teething, maybe it was just Murphy’s Law. We had all driven all this way to make this session happen and I gotta say, I was truly worried we weren’t going to be able to pull it off.
Somehow we managed. I think it mostly had to do with Carrie’s wonderful sense of humor and how she embraces motherhood and all that comes with it so gracefully. Those girls of hers are truly beautiful and when we finally discovered the secret to happiness (banging pots and pans in the kitchen), all was right with the world.
Carrie…I totally enjoyed our adventure that day and I’m so glad to know you!

holiday_austin-family-childrens-photographer.jpg

I have completely enjoyed my little break so far, hanging out with my kiddos and doing all of these holiday-like things with them each day (in spite of being sick). It has been so nice to get offline and off the computer and out of packing tape to play board games, watch movies, look at Christmas lights, snuggle, laugh, bake sweets, and soak up every thing I missed while I was caught up in the holiday photography whirlwind.
Pinkle Toes Photography will continue to be closed until January 9th (well, still got some sessions and still have workshops coming up), but please be patient as e-mails, facebook messages, and phone calls will likely not be returned until after the 9th.
Clients…I will be sending you the details of the 2011 Pinkle’s Pic of the Year contest. Changing things up this year to make it more exciting and the prize is even bigger! Be on the lookout in your e-mail next week and if you don’t get something by the 1st, let me know!!!!
I will try to catch up on the blog sometime next year (ha!) to share all of the incredible holiday family sessions and beautiful cards from this year. I have so enjoyed getting all of your cards in the mail!!! Gosh, there are a lot of beautiful happy families out there and that make my heart happy. Meanwhile, if you didn’t get a copy yet, here’s a peek at our holiday card this year:

I hope you ALL have a WONDERFUL holiday season and are spending lots and lots of time with the ones you love, enjoying old traditions and creating new memories.
Much love,

Our first scheduled date got delayed thanks to a horrible bathtub mishap that led to a severely busted lip and the potential loss of teeth – I was just as scared as Kristin (also a photographer 😉 for her poor baby girl having just been through a bathtub mishap with one of my kids this summer (that one ended up with stitches). But she pulled through with flying colors and we were able to have our session on a glorious Austin fall day in a GLORIOUS Austin home!!!
Sometimes, I have to work really hard to eek out smiles from people, but I’m going to let you in on a little secret here: not the case with these guys. I truly believe when happiness comes from the inside, you can’t help but to grin from ear to ear. I also can’t help but to grin from ear to ear when I look through their pics.

While working on their holiday card design today, I realized I had promised a part 2 to this post. There were definitely too many fav images to tell their story in just one post. So here you go!!!
[Note: If you book a 2012 family photo session now, you can still qualify for a holiday mini session. But you should probably hurry because I only have a few openings left. Also, if you had a session with me this year and you wanted to order holiday cards, please contact me THIS week! I won’t be able to process holiday card orders any later than that.]

fall-austin-family-kids-photography.jpg

Pumpkins were carved.

Seeds roasted in the oven.
The smell of pumpkin soup filled the house.
A fall breeze flowed through the open windows while the kids watched Hocus Pocus.
Tonight we’ll read Goodnight Goon again.

I.love.fall.
