The very first time I photographed her family, I felt so connected to them. Now that they are a family of 5, we have even more in common. Her house is SO colorful and creatively decorated. *I* want to live there. I so enjoyed the very lifestyle nature of their session. It was totally relaxed, no preconceived ideas, we just did what families do…

e-austin-nursing-breastfeeding-photography.jpg…like take a snack break, for instance 😉

e-austin-family-lifestyle-kids-photographer.jpgAnd play airplane and read and tickle and laugh.

e-austin-family-childrens-lifestyle-photographer.jpgSee what I mean? Look at those yummy colors!!!

e-austin-family-portraits.jpgTheir backyard was just as magical.

e-austin-kids-photographer.jpgVery much looking forward to seeing these two play in front of a crowd someday. I can say I knew them when 😉

e-austin-modern-family-portrait-photography.jpgSigh. I was there forever that night. I didn’t want to leave. We were having such a great time hanging out, playing around, sharing stories, and commiserating about the “joys” of having three kiddos. Erin…I know I’ve told you this before, but your family is amazing and you and Adam have done such a great job as parents. I admire your easy-going nature (even if you claim it wasn’t always so). So glad to have you as a friend, my dear.

Since her newborn session and at 6 months she’s had me wrapped around her adorably chubby little baby fingers. But I’ve become attached to her parents, too…

l2_austin_family_lifestyle_photographer.jpg…and I thoroughly enjoyed exploring their property, where we decided to commemorate her 1 year birthday.

l3_austin_childrens_photographer.jpgOne year of motherhood. And fatherhood…

l4_austin_family_photographer.jpgOne full year as a family of three.

l5_austin_baby_photographer.jpgThey have big plans for this place.  Her daddy says he’s going to build her a tree house right here.

l6_austin_couples_engagement_phhotographer.jpgThey are a wonderfully connected couple.

We were packing up and heading to the car when I noticed this scene…

l7_austin_toddler_photographer.jpg…and then we headed to the house for a few more…

l8_austin_family_lifestyle_baby_photographer.jpgThe one at the top w/ her and her daddy…love (be sure to check out Blake’s beautiful work.) I’d say parenthood looks good on them and they’ve done a wonderful job raising a joyful, charming baby girl.

This may very well have been the most active session I’ve ever
done…and that’s saying a lot because there were only two people
involved. I think it very accurately reflects where he is in his life
right now, which is *exactly* what his mommy wanted to capture.

First we
flew planes and skateboarded…

c1_austin_kids_photographer.jpg

…then we played piano overlooking the city…

c2_austin_family_photographer.jpg…followed by more skateboarding…

c3_austin_childrens_photographer.jpg…and snuggles from mom.

c4_austin_family_lifestyle_photographer.jpgThen we practiced some edible spelling…

c5_austin_kids_photographer.jpg…football…

c6_austin_child_photographer.jpg(I hope he appreciates his spectacular peepers)

…and of course some baseball:

c7_austin_childrens_photographer.jpg(omg, LOVE the tongue).

c9_austin_family_photographer.jpgMore snuggles from mom and then to cap off the evening, a nice bike ride:

c10_austin_kids_lifestyle_photographer.jpgYup. That covers it. We indeed did it all.

I can’t tell you enough how much I enjoyed this session. He reminds me so much of my middle son and it’s been such a pleasure watching this little guy grow up over the years. He and his family are close to my heart.

during this newborn session that I will never forget. It had been cold for quite sometime and on this day, it was nice and warm. Mom and dad were playing with the baby on the bed and we unwrapped him from his blanket. It was as if they were unwrapping a gift. It was incredible to be there to watch them as they got to explore their son’s newborn-ness for the first time. They were lost in their own world…peeking at tiny toes, noticing those little lashes, the way his belly moved when he breathed. It was magical.

They flew in from out of town. She said she loved Austin. She said she loved the Hotel San Jose. She said this was just to celebrate her birthday. She had style and grace and this classic, unassuming beauty. The connection between the two of them made me so excited to see their future together play out.

No, seriously…LOVED this session:

tiny_austin_birth_maternity_pregnancy_photographer.jpgAt a mere 10 lbs 6 oz (oh yes, that’s NOT a typo), baby Carter came into this world today just as cute as he could be! If they were to give trophies out at the end of births, his mama certainly deserved one for completing this marathon med free. Beautiful, beautiful and MUCH anticipated birth day.

Walking up to her at our session this week, I kept tearing up. I was having flashbacks to here…and then to here (sigh)…and then this…and to these from last fall…

fallm_austin_family_photographer.jpgI admit it’s a little tough for me to watch these kiddos grow up. It reminds me of how fast my own children are growing. But it does make me happy that families are documenting each of these milestones in photographs…something I promise they will never regret. It makes me excited to see how much she’s going to change even over the next year. Thank you guys…from the bottom of my heart..it has been a beautiful, beautiful year with you!

This session will definitely go down in the books for me. First of all, look at all the littles!!! We were definitely on our toes keeping everyone in the same zip code while we tooled around town, but gosh, we had a blast! Just loving the way mom put together their outfits (so impressive) and the random doggie that showed up in the middle our our shoot ;-). It was mom’s idea to do the ice cream at the end–she definitely took one for the team and the kids were totally thrilled.

The family dynamic here was incredible. The energy was contagious. The love was abundant among the kids AND parents. I truly enjoyed my time with them and reading Tracy’s words about her session/family just made so happy (p.s. Tracy is a wonderful photographer!!!). You’ve got to see the amazing gallery she put together in her home…that’s what really counts…her kids get to walk by there every day and see how much they are loved.

I’m fairly certain I’ve teared up at every newborn session, but this one was almost too much to bear. From the moment I walked in, mom was snuggled up nursing baby boy and I glanced upon her dresser to find this framed hand-written list from her husband. The very idea that he wrote this out was so moving, but the fact it was framed just cemented it.

g2_austin_newborn_lifestyle_photographer.jpgWe were all so happy…so joyful…so eager to celebrate this little man’s birth! There were so many tears all around. Notice the one in his grandmother’s eye. We actually had to stop the session several times because we were so caught up in it all. I told them I would *never* be able to finish the session if we didn’t collect ourselves, but once the waterworks turned on, we were all goners. This one makes me giggle:

g4_austin_newborn_lifestyle_photographer.jpg(I wish someone could have gotten all of us in the frame…you can’t see my own tissue 😉

g3_austin_newborn_lifestyle_photographer.jpgBut these last two images really captured the vibe of that morning for me. I was photographing dad and his boy and I could literally *feel* the gaze of mom back there. The love was so intense…so palatable. Wow. It got me. Still gets me.

austin_maternity_portraits_1.jpg

I quite enjoy the opportunity to photograph a maternity session where the focus is on the family. Here they are…at this time…together…getting ready to bring a new life into their family. In spite of having a toddler, it’s peaceful compared to what changes are about to take place.

austin_maternity_pictures_2.jpg(I could have worked in this yellow room all day!)

austin_lifestyle_family_portraits_4.jpgBig sis “to be” got a little sleepy during our session and so she spent a little quiet time with her parents. These were my favorite moments.

austin_pregnancy_portraits_5.jpgAnd of course, the pupster had to be in some pictures!

(Oh, doesn’t mama remind you of Natalie Portman??? Well, I thought so anyway.)
