Attention Class of 2026! If you are graduating high school or college in the Austin area, it is neither too early nor too late to have your Senior Portraits taken! January and February are actually incredible months to check this important To Do off your list. Why?
- “Busy season” for most photographers is over, so we can give you our full energy to creating unique senior portraits that capture your authentic personality.
- It’s before 2nd “busy season” begins (springtime in Austin). This is an especially great time to work in more urban and developed areas in Austin (like our session above on South Congress). You don’t have to wait around for leaves and grass and plants to reappear.
- With the exception of a few days here and there, the temps are usually pretty mild and humidity is low. You won’t need to worry about insects, sweating, or hair misbehaving.
- It’s early enough to have your finished images back in time for graduation announcements!
The above senior photo session was so memorable! I LOVED that she wanted to show off all sides of her very dynamic personality. She wasn’t afraid to be bold and colorful…be it in the outfits she put together or in her mid-session makeup change. The entire time we explored South Congress with her and her mom, it felt so energizing and exciting! These are not your run-of-the-mill “Senior Portraits,” which is perfect because she’s not a run-of-the-mill kind of person.
I very much encourage everyone who is having a photo shoot done (for any occasion) to prepare your vision for the session with your photographer ahead of time (just like she did), but then embrace flexibility for new visions and ideas to crop up as we are inspired. That really is the key to any successful photo session: plan and prepare and then prepare for that plan to change and grow during the shoot. Her willingness to collaborate with me and let the session evolve allowed for a palpable creative flow state among all three of us that morning!
If you are ready to start planning your senior portrait session with me, let’s talk soon!
Sorry, I can’t help it! Especially when I had the chance to experience this family’s breathtaking holiday decorations last year! They are just too magnificent not to share. More HERE.
The release of Taylor Swift’s new video reminded me about a project I had worked on a while back and I was so inspired to revisit it. I’m loving the prismatic aesthetic of the new album artwork and I realize that I’ve been obsessed with that for quite sometime, actually. I’ve photographed this talented young lady and her family for years now, but it was magic to get to work with her *in* her element and in such a creative and colorful way. I love the fantastical and dreamlike nature of this photo session! I love that we were able to simply play and embrace the child-like nature of this adorable Austin landmark. My love for Lisa Frank also resurfaced when creating these images…if only we could have incorporated dolphins and kittens :-). Thank you SO much to C and her mommy for playing along with this vision!!!
I’d be lying if I said I didn’t have other things I should be doing besides dreaming of Rosemary Beach, but I’d also be lying if I said this magical place wasn’t on my mind constantly these days. About a year ago, some dear friends/clients introduced me to 30A and pretty much as soon as I got back home to Texas, I booked a trip for my family to go out there. Let me tell you, our vacation cannot come soon enough!!!
So while I’m taking a break from studying and counting down the days until we go back, I’m going to be posting pics from the family photo sessions that we got to do during that stunning Florida beach trip last year.
These sweet sisters. I’ve been photographing them since they were born! And they have each grown into these bundles of love and energy and beauty and life and we had so much fun getting to play together and twirl in lovely dresses on white sand beaches with the ocean sparkling like a jewel behind us! The town of Rosemary Beach itself is like no other place I’ve ever seen before, too. Breathtaking. I did not want to stop taking pictures…I truly did not. (Remember this?)
Since I’ve blogged TWO days in a row, that makes me officially “on a roll!” I loved the amazing color and vibe this family wanted to incorporate into their photo session in a relatively new part of Austin. Both girls are highly involved with musical theater (which holds a special place in my own heart) and there was no shortage of beauty or personality in these portraits! The hardest part of the photo session was everyone (including me) getting distracted when an adorable doggo would stroll by (they had to leave their own pupper at home for this adventure). Next time, they should definitely bring their furriest family member!!
No one pass out, but yes, I’m still here. I’m actually here! And blogging…really blogging…for the first time in quite a while. I can’t even begin to count how many sessions I have to catch up blogging-wise from as far back as 2017, but I’m not going to focus on that right now. Instead, I’m going to focus on the thousands of incredible memories I have made over the past few years, working with hundreds of wonderful families…like this one…and their fantastically creative Gatsby family photo session we did at Chateau Bellevue earlier this year. These three are near and dear to my heart and every year, I love creating with them! It is always a visual and artistic treat! This one was probably one of the most detailed photo sessions they’ve ever put together, don’t you agree?
Doesn’t our little model totally look like she’s at some RV campground in Florida? ;-). Just did a test run for the Retro Pool Minis coming up this weekend and thought I’d share the results. I’ve got a couple of openings left for Saturday, but if that won’t work for you and you really wanted to play, contact me anyway and let’s see if we can figure out another date. Deets and booking info HERE!
UPDATE – SPECIAL ENCORE: July 27, 28, and 30th at the Pinkle Toes Studio in Manor
Some time ago, I was blessed enough to indulge in a personal project and photograph some very beautiful and sweet sisters with their baby brother. And as with most things, this blog post got pushed further and further out with the onslaught of holiday pictures. What a treat it was to finally get a chance to re-visit this photo session and realize how many gems we were able to capture…the loving relationships and the personalities of each of these three beauties. Also remembering that we used to get sunshine here and there used to be something besides the drab winter browns and grays that have draped our Texas landscape over these last several months. Another of my favs can be found HERE and HERE.
Side note: we had the first round of Valentine’s Day Mini sessions this past weekend and I cannot even begin to tell you how much fun they were nor how ADORABLE the images are! There’s still time to snag yours for the upcoming weekend HERE.
For one reason or another, we kept having to push back this family photo session date until we were right on the edge of the holidays. But, it didn’t matter because it turned out that the day we were finally able to shoot was completely perfect. The boys were in great moods and SO hammy for the camera (didn’t they pull off their dapper purple velvet suit coats so wonderfully?) and the entire family looked oh-so posh and ready for a night on the town. People kept looking at us while we were shooting…trying to figure out if this family was famous (of course they are!) or if perhaps we were shooting an ad ;-). I’ve done so many sessions with this crew over the years and this one will definitely stand out to me. I know the years are numbered where mom is going to be allowed to dress up her guys and I’m glad we were able to do this at least once more. THIS image makes me laugh every time I think about it.
These brothers stole my heart when I first met them at my holiday mini sessions last year and I was VERY happy to get to see them again when the wildflowers were in full bloom. They had me cracking up pretty much the entire time. Their smiles are infectious and it’s just not difficult to draw out their personalities on camera at all. I love their energy and their enthusiasm and most of all, their LOVE for one another. It makes my heart happy. THIS image also makes my heart happy.
